'Designing for Learning In Action'
Our Embedded CPD Projects began initially at the request of one school in South Wales.
The remit was to design a bespoke, collaborative project centered around an authentic real-life or imaginary hook. It would be based on the current or previous curriculum theme, allowing the learners to apply and deepen their knowledge and understanding whilst developing necessary attitudes and skills for life and work. At the same time, the teachers and other staff members would be able to observe the principles (and us) in action, ask questions, reflect and eventually become involved in team-teaching alongside us.
Component Elements of a Project
Design & Development Session |
Bespoke Project Website |
Bespoke Project Photobook |
Family Engagement Event |
iMovie Narrated by Members of the Class |
Download of All Task Materials and Designs |
Opportunity for Staff To Observe |
Regular Coaching Discussions with Teachers & Leaders |
The usual format for an Embedded CPD Project involves two classes (same or adjacent year groups) over a continuous two week period. Each class has a 1/2 day session with us until the 'Family Engagement Event' when the classes come together. If this format is not suitable, we are happy to discuss alternatives.
The projects are frequently enhanced by whole school training events to explore and ensure sustainable impact.

Let's bring the curriculum alive and make authentic connections across the areas of learning.
National Priorities - Individual NeedsEach project design is centred on exploring community, building relationships and developing metacognition, self-regulation and effective feedback strategies. Opportunities to develop and apply aspects of literacy, numeracy and, in particular, health and well-being will be built into the sequence of linked learning experiences.
A focus is placed on engaging families in the learning process. They have access to the project website from day one, enabling them to follow the progress. The classes take full ownership of the family engagement event, becoming the experts that guide their guests through the different learning experiences. A 'Learning Passport' supports the process and provides a way for the families to leave feedback. |
STEMEach project will incorporate a focus on developing the employability skills associated with STEM, alongside specific engineering design processes.

Project DesignEvery project is designed to enable children to apply existing knowledge, deepen understanding and develop essential attitudes and skills. It takes an IDL (Interdisciplinary Learning) approach and places learners at the centre of the experience. Their thoughts, ideas and reflections will be incorporated as the project evolves - making each project unique to that group.
The project design and ethos encourages and allows children and adults to engage in 'play' and 'problem-based learning' at different levels. Projects are based on a connected, authentic scenario - whether real-life or imaginary. Children are encouraged to explore and play with ideas, tools and concepts - collaborating and creating. They take on roles and learn about the world around them within a safe, yet challenging environment. |
