Designing for Learning Training Events
‘Designing for Learning’ is the generic name that we give to our events.
It is not a model, formula, programme or initiative. We consider it an approach which attempts to integrate best pedagogical practice with relevant and current learning theory and research. During training, participants are introduced to tools and strategies which support the development of the Five Key Concepts of 'Designing for Learning'.

During training, participants are introduced to tools and strategies which support the development of the Five Key Concepts of 'Designing for Learning'.
Participants experience the Key Concepts in situ and explore how to apply the design principles in their own contexts and settings. Throughout our training we demonstrate and discuss how we have used the design principles to engage participants and facilitate the learning on the course. We are not elevated ‘gurus’ dropping morsels of impenetrable wisdom or slick ‘edu-tainers’ offering ‘gloss’ with little substance. We understand the importance of the training having impact once the event is over. We understand the need for it to be sustainable. We aim to ‘feed for a lifetime’ not just a day.
Give someone a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach someone to fish and you feed them for a lifetime.
We specialise in creating collaborative, cross-phase communities that can effectively design and participate in increasingly complex problem-based learning experiences. Designing for Learning (DfL) can be applied generically to curriculum development or specifically to aspects such as STEM. It combines a focus on applying knowledge and understanding with developing the necessary attitudes and skills for success in life, future learning and employment, resulting in quality 'products'.
This has been by far the most valuable training I have ever been on. Andrew and Lynne, you are an amazing team and delivered the training so well. My three days have been memorable - actually feel emotional at leaving here tonight! I also feel inspired and confident that I will support the families and children whom I work with in even better ways than previously. Every employee within WDC would benefit from this training. Thank you very much.

Designing For Learning: Complete Training
The full training comprises of Step One, Step Two and Step Three.
All participants are encouraged to complete Step One and Two as a continuous training event. The same participants will return for Step Two as the event is connected and allows for progression and depth to be explored as the community grows.
Step Three is optional and is open to participants who have completed any of the combined Step One/Step Two events.
An additional option is Designing for Learning: Leadership. This training event was created to support leaders during the implementation of 'Designing for Learning' in their settings.

Design & Development DaysAn opportunity for small teams, phase groups, curriculum leads to focus on the design and development of a specific aspect. This may include STEM, Play-Based Learning, Designing for Learning, Integrated Curriculum Design. This is particularly helpful for individuals who are leading on 'Designing for Learning' in their setting or as part of a longer-term support package. |
Coaching DaysEach setting or individual staff member can determine the focus and format of the coaching experience. This can include 1:1 reflective sessions, in-class coaching using a non-judgemental transcript followed by a coaching conversation. |
